Poker Game Betting Limits
The poker tables at Royal Vegas Poker have different betting limits. These limits
are typically displayed next to the table name, so that they are always visible
to you. This allows you to choose a table that suits your budget, and gives you
an indication of how rich the pots are likely to be at the tables.
Betting limits are the maximum amounts that may be bet per betting round. The poker
software is "aware" of the betting limit at each table, so that the betting options
you are presented with when it is your turn to play will always reflect the limit
structure of the table you are at.
There are 3 different possible types of betting limits:
- Fixed Limit
- Pot Limit
-
No Limit
Fixed Limit
In a fixed limit game, the betting limits are set per betting round. Typically the
bet limit for the initial rounds of betting is set at the lower limit, and for the
later rounds, at the upper limit.
For example, if the game structure is $2/$4, the first few rounds of betting and
raising are limited to $2, and for the later rounds, to $4. In other words, a player
cannot bet or raise more than $2 initially, and $4 in the later rounds. This means
that no one bet or raise can be more than the limits set.
Pot Limit
In a Pot Limit game, all bets and raises are limited to the size of the pot at the
time of betting. The maximum bet allowed is equal to the total amount in the pot.
Obviously this limit changes throughout the hand as the pot increases.
No Limit
In a no-limit game there is no limit on the size of the bets or raises that can
be made, as you would expect. Your bet is limited only by the total amount of chips
you have, and you can bet any amount up the size of your stack.
